Zola Fern Duncan, 91 of Butler MO passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Lake of the Ozarks under hospice care, in the home of her daughter, Lee Terry. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Butler, 612 West Fort Scott Street, Butler, MO 64730.
Zola was born April 15, 1919 in Austin, MO the daughter of Charles Edward and Katherine Lou (Schraw) Harper. She married John William "Jack" Duncan on December 14, 1935 and they were married for over 60 years.
Zola was a farmer's wife and a homemaker most of her life. When they moved to Butler in 1964, Zola went to work at the hospital in Butler as a baker. She was the best cook ever and was famous for her cobblers. Zola enjoyed gardening, planting a garden every year. She was the best mom ever.
Zola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, who died in 1996, one brother, Oscar Harper, three sisters, Myrtle Crotty, Gussie Cox and Mabel McCoin, one daughter, Anna Lee Carter and one grandson, Marty Ray Caruthers. She is survived by three sons, Russell Duncan of Kansas City, MO, Wayne Duncan and wife, Zona of Odessa, MO and Jack Duncan and wife, Debra of Blue Springs, MO; two daughters, Lee Terry and husband, J. T. of Climax Springs, MO and Joyce Yoakum of Peculiar, MO; 8 grandchildren, Bobby Duncan, Gary Hunt, Troy Duncan, Michael Duncan, Blake Duncan, Johanna Caruthers, Mary Sue Caruthers and John Wayne Caruthers and 12 great-grandchildren.
