William "Bill" James Ryan, 93, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Services were held Monday, August 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville. Graveside services, with military honors, were held Thursday, August 26 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
Bill was born July 6, 1928 in Clairton, PA, a son of James Thomas and Margaret Marie (McCurry) Ryan. Bill graduated from Elizabeth Forward School in Elizabeth, PA and attended three years at Duquesne University in Pittsburg, PA. He married Anna Louisa Chappell on October 20, 1956.
Bill was a United States Navy Seaman 1 st Class veteran, having served during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville and the Knights of Columbus 4 th Degree, and had organized all of the blood drives for the Knights of Columbus for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Harrisonville. He worked as a manager at several retail stores.
Bill was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved golfing.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Margaret Marie Smoker, two sisters, and one grandson, Cody Smoker. He is survived by his wife, Anna Ryan, of the home; five daughters, Theresa Ryan (Danny Carmichael), Raymore, MO, Barbara Campbell (Tom) and Colleen Barber, both of Harrisonville, MO, Regina Campbell (Steve), Lenexa, KS, and Karen Wachner (David), Waller, TX; one son, William Ryan, Jr. (Alex), Dickinson, TX; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
