George William "Bill" Hayes, 76, Garden City, Missouri, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services were held May 1, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow.

Bill was born September 27, 1937 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the son of Theodore Hamilton and Helen Jane (Osborne) Hayes. He was a 1955 graduate of Harrisonville High School. He married Carolyn Jean Hays on May 29, 1956. After they divorced, Bill married Garnett Lea Hughes in 1975. After her death, he re-married Carolyn on May 29, 1996.

Bill was a U.S. Navy (SeaBee) Veteran. He worked in residential construction for most of his life. Bill lived most of his life in the Cass County, Missouri area except for 15 years at the lake, near Edwards, Missouri. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville and was a former member of the Harrisonville Optimist Club.

Bill was preceded in death by his father and his second wife, Garnett. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home; one son, Michael William Hayes, Roach, Missouri; three daughters, Deborah Hayes, Springfield, Missouri, Julie Cantrell, Garden City, Missouri and Laura B. Goodnow, Meriden, Kansas; his mother, Helen Hayes, Harrisonville, Missouri; two step-sons, Joel Young, Harrisonville, Missouri and Mitchell Young, Lake Ozark, Missouri; one brother, Ted Hayes of Missouri; two sisters, Helen Mosley, Harrisonville, Missouri and Karen Freeman, Birmingham, Alabama; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
