William "Alan" Grimsley, 73, Adrian, MO, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial visitation was held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Care of Butler, Missouri.
Alan was born April 17, 1947 in Butler, MO, to William "Bill" S. and Lola Luetta (Bitner) Grimsley. Alan, the second of three children, grew up in the Amoret area where he attended Amoret Grade School and graduated from Miami High School in 1965. He attended Fort Scott Community College until being drafted into the Army in July of 1967. While serving a tour in Vietnam, he received a Purple Heart. On August 15, 1970, Alan was united in marriage to his wife of 50 years, Martha McCammon.
Alan enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and softball, and hunting and fishing in his younger years. Later in life he enjoyed golfing and bowling and attending his children's various sporting events. During his life he worked at Pittman Mfg., Liston and Clark, and retired in February, 2008 after 31 years working as a mechanic at KCP&L in LaCygne, KS. Also, during this time, he and his wife owned and operated A&M Lanes in Adrian for 13 years.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lola, and one granddaughter, Cassidy Jo Grimsley. He is survived by his wife, Martha, of the home; daughter, Loretta Gray (John), son, Josh Grimsley (Amanda), all of Adrian, MO, and daughter, Sara Grimsley of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Vincent, Katy (Jack), Jordan, Madison, Josie, Leevi, Maycee, Rylee; one great-granddaughter, Addilyn; sisters, Judy Pierce (Earl), Butler, MO and Francie Roberts, Topeka, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
