William E. (Bill) Bradley, 86, Butler, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at his home. Memorial services 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Ohio Street United Methodist Church in Butler, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian, Missouri. (Cremation). Bill was born Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925, to Edward and Lucile Smith Bradley at their farm home, located 5 miles southeast of Butler in Lone Oak Township. After completing his early education in rural schools, Bill entered Butler High School on September 1, 1939, graduating with the class of 1943. After his 18th birthday, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He trained in signalman school and was then assigned as a crew member aboard the USS Granville, an attack transport ship, for the remainder of his military service in World War II.
After discharge from the service in 1946, Bill obtained a position as office manager and parts man at Cubbin Motor Company, the local retail Ford agency. Here he enjoyed nearly 12 years of employment. In 1957 Bill began his banking career with the then Butler State Bank under Gaylon E. Babcock, majority owner of the bank. He remained employed by this bank and its ultimate successors for 38 years. He retired as Chairman of the bank's Board of Directors, then known as Boatmen's Bank of Butler, on January 1, 1991.
Bill enjoyed being an active member of the Ohio St. United Methodist Church throughout his lifetime, serving on multiple committees, holding various offices, and being a member of the chancel choir for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Butler Lodge No. 254, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and Ararat Shrine of Kansas City.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roy E. Bradley. Survivors include one sister and best friend, Shirley L. Hayward; five nieces, Bettelue Powell (Kent), Marilyn Miller (Robert), Sue Rebold, Jill Eggleston (Jim) and Julie Craigmiles (Steve), along with seven great-nephews and five great-nieces.
