IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wendell Heins
Patterson
January 5, 1928 – June 24, 2018
Wendell Heins Patterson, 90, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held June 28, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Archie, MO with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Archie, MO.
Wendell was born January 5, 1928 in Archie, MO, the son of Ralph H. and Marjorie Morriss Patterson. For the early part of his life, Wendell rarely left the family farm in Austin, MO. He devoted himself to helping his father and mother. One daily chore was to cart the milk cans to the road for pickup. (The "cousins" also enjoyed those milk cart rides that Wendell was always willing to give them around the farm). His favorite farm animal and constant companion was his collie dog, Lassie. Wendell also helped his mother around the house with the vacuuming and dusting. In later life when he and his mother moved to Archie, Wendell was active in his community. He enjoyed living in town and was happiest when helping others by delivering mail, taking groceries to the Archie Baptist Church Day Care, and holding the door for people at the church on Sunday mornings. Wendell enjoyed walking around town, and would always announce where he was going, such as, "I'm going to take a walk up west".
Upon the death of his mother in 1985, Wendell's aunt, Harriet Logue, moved into the Patterson home in Archie to care for him. When Harriet died, Wendell then moved to Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville, where he was popular with both staff and other residents.
Wendell enjoyed looking at the pictures in the newspaper, getting his Archie High School annual each year to check on the people he knew, wearing suspenders, checking the time and date on his many watches, collecting calendars, and eating Little Debbie snack cakes. He was always eager to know what was happening in the lives of his friends and family, and the first thing he would ask upon greeting a visitor was always, "Do you know any news?".
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his cousins, Linda Logue Zellmer (Fred), Linda Tatman Logue, Anne Zellmer Jenkins (Duncan), Jason Logue (Cristina), Lee A. Zellmer, Ryan Logue (Elizabeth), Jennifer Logue Bolton (Wesley), and Christopher Limpus (Sarabeth), and their children.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Golden Years for their attentive and loving care, and to Carol Parris for the years that she helped Wendell and Harriet remain in their home in Archie.
