Wayne M. Thomason, 48, of Garden City, MO lost his fight for life but won his battle for freedom from multiple sclerosis on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Burial was in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, MO. The family suggests contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Wayne was born December 26, 1967 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Clifford Eugene and Wilma Lavonne (Rogers) Thomason. Wayne grew up in the Kansas City/Cass County area and was a 1986 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School where he excelled in several areas but had a special passion for Panther baseball. After graduation, he continued his academic and baseball education as an MU Tiger and an Indian Hills Falcon. He obtained a B.S. degree in finance at Missouri State in Springfield, MO, and after working in banking in the Kansas City area became a manager for AT&T in San Jose and Sacramento, California. He moved to Garden City in 2010.
Wayne loved baseball but intertwined in that love was his love for people. He never failed to find ways to do nice things for everyone he knew including teammates, workmates, neighbors, or friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cliff, in 2008. He is survived by his son, Hunter Thomason, Garden City; his mother, Lavonne Thomason, Garden City; his sister, Rhonda (Dean) Johnson, Paris, MO; two nephews, Cole (Megan) Johnson, and Connor Johnson; a niece, Shelby (Devin) Vanlandingham; one great nephew, Brenden Johnson; and two great nieces, Karsen Johnson and Sophie Johnson, plus many other relatives and friends.
