Wanda Jean Hembree, 80, of Garden City, Missouri died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Harrisonville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
Wanda was born December 29, 1932 in Adrian, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Ruby (Strange) Gillis. She married Selden Hembree on March 24, 1950. Wanda was a lifelong area resident. She had worked at Party Plus for over three years and was a member of the Rodman Homemakers Club and the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son and infant daughter, two brothers, Chester Gillis and Harold Gillis and one sister, Oma Lee Rusow and her husband, Selden on October 5, 2006. Survivors include one son, Selden Hembree and his wife, Debbie, Garden City, Missouri; one daughter, Dora May Becker and her husband, Bob, Harrisonville, Missouri; one sister, Jewell Wimsatt, Adrian, Missouri; 6 grandchildren, Scott, Chad, Karissa, Kyla (Nick), Dustin (Hollie) and Shannon (Jerrod); 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dyllan, Sabryna, Lindsey, Remington, Emmalea, Rylee, Elijah, Meilide and Paige.
