Obituary

Walter "Pete" Price Cummings, 82, Grandview, Missouri died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 1:00-2:00. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice, (kansascityhospice.org).

Pete was born August 9, 1930 in Harrisonville, Mo. the son of Anver Ferrell and Laverna Pearl (Bybee) Cummings. He was a 1949 graduate of Harrisonville High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War in Japan, working in the supply department.

Pete married Freda Marie Flanery on September 12, 1953. He worked for Mickelson Barber Shop in Grandview and later opened Pete's Barber Shop that he operated for 47 years, from 1961-2008. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grandview.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Freda, of the home; two sons, Robert Cummings (Barb), Maryland Heights, Mo. and David Cummings (Lori), Lee's Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Kathy Cummings, Lee's Summit, Mo.; one brother, Ferrell Cummings (Alice), Grandview, Mo.; one sister, Maxine Morris (Dick), Peculiar, Mo.; his stepmother, Nadean Cummings, Harrisonville, Mo.; 7 grandchildren, Tony, Casey, Jake, Bethany, Michelle, Macy and Brady and 1 great-grandson, Kale.
