Vivian Lavaun Brewster, 82, Peculiar, Missouri, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, Missouri. Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at the chapel. Private burial in Orient Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Christian School, 8524 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
Vivian was born August 13, 1929 in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of Louis Herbert and Nilah Irene (Spade) Hummel. She was a graduate of Portland High School and then attended Beauty School. She married Darrel Burton Brewster on July 15, 1950 in Portland.
Vivian was a member of the Blue Ridge Bible Church in Kansas City, Missouri. She had also attended Peculiar Baptist Church, where she served in many ways, including teaching Sunday school, Bible school, singing in the church choir, and hosting bible Studies for children and adults. She enjoyed traveling and camping, crafts and sewing. Vivian loved being a homemaker and a mother to her five children. Her home was always open for family and friends.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Duane "Dewey" Hummel and one granddaughter, Jill Lewis. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Darrel, of the home; one son, Darrel Burton Brewster, Jr. and wife, Doris, Raymore, Missouri; four daughters, Debbie Wildeisen and husband, Bill, Creighton, Missouri, Chris Golden and husband, Dennis, Peculiar, Missouri, Darlene Scott and husband, Larry, Freeman, Missouri, Janelle Campbell and husband, Mike, Lamar, Missouri; one brother, Greg Hummel and wife, Bessie, Portland, Indiana; one sister, Lois Forte, Bloomfield, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Hummel; 11 grandchildren, Jake, Lori, Jeni, Amber, Andy, Seth, Jessica, Katie, Carrie, Ty and Brett; 10 great-grandchildren, Presleigh, Will, Stella, Caitlin, D. J., Olivia, Jax, Drew, Gracie and Drake (and 2 on the way); other relatives, nieces and nephews and many friends.
