Violet Marie Newell, 78, of Lansing, KS died Friday, December 18, 2015 at her home in Lansing. A memorial service was held Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Inurnment will be in Will's Cemetery, Peculiar, MO.
Violet was born September 29, 1937 in Kansas City, MO, a daughter of James E. and Ruth Z. (Handy) Ward. Violet grew up in Independence, MO, and was united in marriage to James Earl Newell, December 17, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. Violet lived in Peculiar for 35 years and moved to Peoria, AZ in 2000. She moved to Lansing, KS in 2005.
Violet was an electronic assembler for JIMCO, in Raymore, MO 15 years before her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, on March 5, 1994, her parents, a son; Larry Newell, two daughters-in-law; Debbie Newell and Susan Newell; a grandson, Sam Newell, and a brother, Charles Ward. Violet is survived by three sons, James M. Newell, Peculiar, MO; Charles Newell and wife, Yvonne, Peoria, AZ; and Robert Newell and wife, Cherie, Belton, MO. Three daughters, Vicki M. Tucker, Grandview, MO; Thelma Swart, and husband, Richard, Lansing, KS; and Margaret Lamb, Tallahassee, FL. Seventeen grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
