Vernon Roberts, better known to many as "Papo" or "Pert" departed this life at the age of 75 at his home in Springdale, AR, on July 3, 2020 at his home. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Interment in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.
Vernon was born on January 21, 1945 in Harrison, Arkansas, son of Loy and Dolly (Baker) Roberts. Vern had a passion for arrowhead hunting, music, travelling, the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Kansas City Chiefs. Vern had been collecting arrowheads for 68 years. He had the ability to have a witty comeback for almost any conversation- you never knew what little pun he had waiting for you. Above all, his family was his everything.
Vern was a boilermaker for 10 years, until he became president and managed the boiler shop at Cody's and then moved on to Foley's Co. He later started Roberts Service Co. with his beloved wife Sue. Vernon had a strong work ethic and drive that made everyone proud.
Vernon was the husband to Carolyn Sue (Smith) Roberts; father of two daughters: Tammy and Cindy (Chris); brother to Vivian; grandpa to Savanah (Drew), Taylor, Austin (Kelsee), and Tanner; great-grandfather to six: Makinley, Houston, Camden, Dawson, Charlee and Paislee; uncle to his very special nieces: Debbie, Karla, and Tonya; favorite brother-in-law, David, and outlaw, Mary; as well as, many great nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rudy. He was a great friend and storyteller to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Loy and Dolly; his brothers: E.L. and Carl; sister, Geneva Jo; brother-in-law, Rudolph "Rudy"; son-in-law, Tony; and granddaughter, Kara Sue.
