Obituary

Vern Ray Swearengin, 80, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at his home. Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to Gideon's International.

Vern was born January 7, 1935 in Elkhead, Missouri, the son of Lester and Lois (Fink) Swearengin. He had lived in Sparta, Missouri before moving to Kansas City, and to Harrisonville in 1963. He married Jo Ann Gattenby on August 6, 1954 in Kansas City. Vern was a U. S. Air Force Veteran. He had worked as a press operator for Hallmark Cards for 42 years before retiring in 1993. Vern was also a cattleman. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church and a member of Gideon International.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul Swearengin, one sister, Janice Sparkman, and one son, Robert Wesley Swearengin. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, of the home; two daughters, Lois Milam, Harrisonville, Missouri and Marcella (John) Powers, Garden City, Missouri; one brother, Rev. Dan Swearengin, Sun City, California; two sisters, Rev. Buena Huffman, Eldon, Missouri and Bonnie Volland (Gary), Billings, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Randolph (Lance), Drew Powers, James Milam (Lisa), and Blake Powers (Samantha); and 4 great-grandchildren, Tucker Randolph, Hunter Milam, Fisher Randolph, and Blakely Milam.
