Velma was born March 26, 1927 in rural West Line, MO, at her parent's home, the daughter of Ralph and Cora Fern (Masterson) Greene. Velma lived her entire life in the West Line and Freeman community areas. She was a 1945 graduate of Drexel High School. On May 8, 1947, Velma was united in marriage to Jack R. Cook in Harrisonville, MO. Out of this marriage she had three children, Daryl, Sandra and Kris.
Velma grew up on a farm so helping out was a daily job. She enjoyed the times that she shared with her sisters and brother and their families as they all grew up and the dinners at her parent's house after church on Sundays and holidays. She loved being at home with her children and being a homemaker. As Velma's children grew older, she started working at the Freeman Post Office as a clerk and continued working until her retirement in 1995. She attended West Line Christian Church her entire life, every Sunday. She was president of the West Line Church Ladies Aid Society and the church secretary for many years. Velma was a soft-spoken, kindhearted person, always volunteering help when needed. She always had a smile on her face.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack on November 17, 2008, a sister, Kay Smith and a son-in-law, Robert Moloski. She is survived by two sons, Daryl Cook and his wife, Naomi, Cleveland, MO and Kris Cook and his wife, Jennifer, Harrisonville, MO; one daughter, Sandra Cook and companion, Cliff Linder, Jr., Harrisonville, MO; one sister, Hazel Wise, Louisburg, KS; one brother, Jack Greene, Linwood, KS; 7 grandchildren, Brad Moloski and companion, Tammy Memke, Brenton Cook, Bethany Cook, Samantha Cook, Jonathan Cook, Corina Brown and her husband, T.
