Stewart M. Mills, 95, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Burial will be held in Freedom Cemetery in Freedom, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 345, Harrisonville, MO 64701.

Stewart was born December 7, 1916 in Lockport, New York, the son of Gomer and Hannah (Williams) Mills. He was a graduate of Arcade, New York High School. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Stewart married Evelyn Mabel Palmerton on May 29, 1940 in Sandusky, New York. He lived in Rome, New York for 25 years before moving to Harrisonville, Missouri in 1970. He worked in research and development as a production control specialist for Griffith Air Force Base in Rome, New York and for Richards Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, Missouri for 30 years before retiring in 1973.

Stewart was a member, Deacon and Sunday school teacher of Bartlett Baptist Church in New York and First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. He was currently a member of Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville. He loved to garden and was an organic gardener since the early 1950's. He loved to attend local auctions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ellen Laura Mills, one brother, Sterling Mills and one granddaughter, Stacy Jane Crumb. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Evelyn Mills, of the home; one son, William F. Mills and wife, Joy, Harrisonville, Missouri; four daughters, Darleen Small and husband, Rev. William Small, Saranac Lake, New York, Donnaleen Rasmussen and husband, Jonathan, Eatonville, Washington, Doreen Crumb and husband, William, Evergreen, Colorado and Daneen Huston and husband, Bill, Van Buren, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
