Steven Wayne Lyon, 59 of West Line, MO, died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the West Line Christian Church in West Line, MO. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Glenwild Cemetery, Cleveland, MO. Steve was born August 30, 1950 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Donald Milton and Patricia Lou (Richardson) Lyon. He attended most of his school years at Freeman School and Cass Midway High School. Right out of high school, Steve was employed at Perry's Body Shop in Harrisonville, MO and over the years he worked for Freeman Water Department, Bracken Construction, Special T Pallet Company, Meadow Lane Homes, Precision Manufacturing, Clipper Manufacturing, Khulman Diecasting, Yates Excavating and for his entire life, he helped his family, many friends and strangers, just for the betterment of their lives.

Steve was a man of the woods, whether it be hunting, fishing or simply the serenity of being there, he loved the woods. Steve, or as his fellow racers referred to him, "Hippie", had a great passion in all aspects of racing, from building, working on, driving or watching the race cars, he loved it all.

Steve was a lifelong resident of West Line, which he loved dearly and took great pride in keeping it the West Line that he was raised in. He was the Mayor of West Line for well over 20 years and on his mother's wishes, he was able to make her dream of the West Line Jamboree a reality. Steve was a member of the West Line Christian Church where he played parts in many church programs throughout his life. On February 5, 1971, Steve was united in marriage to Gail Ann Smith in Freeman, MO.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and one niece, Lindsey Rae Barrett. He is survived by his wife Gail, of 39 years, of the home; two sons, Barry Lyon and wife, Carla, West Line, MO and Timothy Lyon and wife, April, Harrisonville, MO; two brothers, Bob Lyon and wife, Lori and Eric Sechrest, all of West Line, MO; three sisters, Donna Barrett and husband, Ray and Vicki Lyon, all of West Line, MO and Lori Brock, Cleveland, MO; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and 1 soon-to-be-born great-grandson; many nieces, nephews and numerous other family.
