Obituary

Steven Paul Catron, 49, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, January 31 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Public School Foundation or to the First Christian Church, Harrisonville.

Steve was born April 4, 1961 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Paul Edward and Betty Jane (Morrison) Catron. He was a lifelong resident of Harrisonville. He was a 1979 graduate of Harrisonville High School; 1984 graduate of Central Missouri State University, Bachelor of Science in Music Education, Emphasis in Instrumental Music; Vocal Certification completed in 1988; 1988 University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire Master of Education, Professional Development with an Emphasis in Conducting.

Steve worked as a music instructor in Jewell, KS; Archie, MO Public Schools; Abilene, KS; Minneapolis, KS; Adjunct Faculty, Cloud County Community College, Concordia, KS; Associate Band Director, Concordia, KS; Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of Wisconsin; Band Director, Adrian R-III Schools. He was currently the Harrisonville Branch Director at the Cass County Library. Steve has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He was also a Boy Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Steve was a member and choir director of First Christian Church in Harrisonville and a member and Assistant Director of Garden City Community Choir. He was a member of Harrisonville Kiwanis Club, Music Educators National Conference, Kansas Music Educators Association, Kansas Bandmasters Association, National Education Association, Kansas National Education Association, CMSU Alumni Band, Tubist Universal Brotherhood Association, North American Brass Bands Association, Inc., Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Professional Men's Music Fraternity. He was a member of the following performing ensembles, Abilene Municipal Band, American Legion Band of Greater Kansas City, Cass Brass Band, Central Missouri State University Alumni Band, Heart of America Concert Band, Kansas City Wind Symphony, Mid-Missouri Tuba Quartet, Midwest Winds, Minneapolis Choraliers, Nostalgia Band, Overland Park Civic Band, Salina Municipal Band, Salina Symphony Orchestra, University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Wind Ensemble, University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble and Western Missouri British Brass Band.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Eddie on August 14, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Alyssa Rachelle Catron, Minneapolis, KS and Melanie Nicole Weeks and her husband, Daniel, Overland Park, KS; his mother, Betty Catron, Harrisonville, MO and one brother, Michael Douglas Catron, Harrisonville, MO.
