IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Lee
Barnard, Sr.
June 22, 1956 – March 14, 2025
Steven Lee Barnard Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the age of 68, at his home surrounded by family. A celebration of Steven's life was held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society.
Born on June 22, 1956, in Butler, Missouri, to James Wallace Barnard and Mickey Lee Atkinson, Steven spent his formative years in Cass County, where he graduated from Harrisonville High School with the Class of 1975. After high school, he established roots in Kansas City, MO, where he spent 43 years and dedicated himself to serving the city as a Garage Supervisor for the Water Department. Steven retired in 2020, allowing him more time to embrace his passions and enjoy life outside of work. He married Alice Cirillo on June 1, 2013 in Lee's Summit, MO. In recent years, they resided in Nevada, MO, creating memories with his family and friends until his passing.
Steven was known for his love of antiques, often spending weekends attending estate sales and auctions in search of hidden treasures. His enthusiasm extended beyond collecting; he was a devoted NASCAR fan and reveled in all kinds of racing. A man of many interests, he enjoyed tractor pulls and had a natural talent for tinkering with anything mechanical. Gardening was another passion of his, where he found solace and satisfaction in nurturing his plants and growing vegetables.
At home, Steven's heart was filled with love for his chihuahuas, affectionately known as his "little dogs". Though he had a reputation for being gruff, those who knew him well understood that beneath that tough exterior was a heart of gold. He spoke his mind openly, but those who gained his trust quickly became considered part of his extended family. His deep love for his children and grandchildren was evident in every moment spent together. In honoring Steven's legacy, let us remember him not only for his many passions and gruff exterior but for the profound love and kindness he shared with all who knew him.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Barnard. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice Barnard, of the home; his children: Steven Barnard, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; Chad (Carrie) Barnard of Odessa, MO; Jessica (Eric) Teter, of Bates City, MO; and Jerid (Heather) Campbell of Ft. Worth, TX; his step-children: Victoria Conrad, Kelsi McDonald, and Mark McDonald; 9 grandchildren; his brothers: James Barnard, Jr., Michael Barnard, and Rick Barnard; his sister, Gloria Roth; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
