Stephen Allen Woody, 55, Peculiar, MO, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Cooperstown Medical Center, Cooperstown, North Dakota. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vernon County Historical Society, 212 West Walnut, Nevada, MO 64772.

Steve was born June 6, 1954 in Nevada, MO, the son of Charles Allen and Betty Ann (Thompson) Woody. He grew up in Nevada and was a 1972 graduate of Nevada High School. He attended Pittsburg State and Longview Community College. Steve was a U. S. Navy veteran, serving from 1975-1979.

Steve married Leann Stine on December 24, 2008 in Greenwood, MO. He had worked for the Harrisonville Post Office as a mail carrier from 1983-1995. He worked as a union electrician for 13 years. He had worked for Granite Inc. in Tampa, Florida as a commissioning agent on wind turbines the last two years. Steve was an avid golfer. He played the guitar in a band and owned and drove a stock car.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Opal Thompson and his paternal grandparents, Leslie and Mable Woody. He is survived by his wife, Leann, of the home; one daughter, Aurora Ann Woody of Vinita, OK; one stepson, Tyler Groh; his mother, Betty Ann Woody of Nevada, MO; one brother, Scott T. Woody and his wife, Jan of Joplin, MO and two nieces, Dr. Kimberly Allen of Eddington, Maine and Kristina Alford of Joplin, MO.
