Shirley Mae Welborn, 75, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 12 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville. Friends may call from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Shirley was born March 10, 1937 in Harrisonville, Missouri, on a farm northeast of Barger Hill on Indian Springs Road, the daughter of Charles Everett and Denver Mae (Burr) Barnard, II. She grew up in Peculiar, Missouri and was a 1954 graduate of Peculiar High School. She married Eldon Larkin Welborn on September 12, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville.
Shirley was an accomplished seamstress. She crocheted many afghans for her family and was an excellent cook and homemaker. She enjoyed working in her yard. Shirley was employed at C.P.L. for over 20 years as a contract worker/parts assembler for Torotel. She and her husband, Eldon, owned and operated Grandview Safety Service for four years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Eldon, on November 2, 2005, one brother, Charles "Bub" Everett Barnard III, and two sisters, Gwendolyn Franse and Barbara Coleman. She is survived by two sons, Michael Welborn and wife, Suzanne, Kearney, Missouri and Jeff Welborn, Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Donna Griffin and husband, Tom and Lora Jackson, all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Mary, Gabriel, Noah, Christopher, David, Rhonda, Shawn, Trisha, Drew, Paige and Brook and 9 great-grandchildren.
