Obituary

Shirley Jean Smith, 75 of Adrian Missouri went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2016. She passed away peacefully at the Adrian Manor after an 11 month stay. She had endured 25 years of living with Scleroderma, a disease she fought quietly and courageously. Graveside services were held Friday, August 26, 2016 at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice-Butler, 612 West Fort Scott Street, Butler, MO 64730.

Shirley was born February 18, 1941 at the family home in Adrian Missouri, where she was a life-long resident. She was the second oldest in a family of five children born to Claude and Marianna Kendrick. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1959

Shirley was a hard worker all her life working first as a waitress and then at the Adrian Movie Theater. At age 19, she took a job with Western Electric/AT&T, where she worked for 30 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling, gardening, spending time with her dogs, and mowing her large yard. Shirley and her husband Carl liked to take summer trips to Colorado with their pet schnauzers, where they enjoyed staying in a cabin in the mountains and fishing. They enjoyed spending winters in their Texas home on the gulf coast.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. Having such a generous heart, she would help others out in any way she could. Lend an ear to a friend in need or take groceries to someone ill. Shirley always had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially dogs. She has given many strays a home, including Lucy and Lacy who were always by her side.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Carl Smith, her father Claude Kendrick and mother Marianna (Noel) Kendrick, her older brother J.D. Kendrick, and her grandson Jonathon Carl Smith. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Enos and husband Paul of Citrus Heights, CA; two step-sons, Rob Smith and wife Laura of Lampasas, TX, and Rick Smith and wife Dee of Harker Heights, TX; one brother, Terry Kendrick and wife Carolyn of Adrian, MO; two sisters, Claudene Hess and husband Glenn of Adrian, MO, and Debra Rhodes and husband Darrell of Butler, MO; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Shirley will be greatly missed.
