Obituary

Selden Lyle Hembree, 78, Garden City, MO, died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held Monday, October 9 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville, officiated by Rev. Asher McDaniel and Rev. George Moore, Harrisonville United Methodist Church. Burial was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Casketbearers were Scott Hembree, Dustin Becker, David Fields, Bob DeMaranville, Tommy Kurzweil and Dennis Kurzweil. Contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.

Selden was born August 29, 1928 in Greenfield, MO, the son of Clyde Goodwin and Laura (Pyle) Hembree. He married Wanda Gillis on March 24, 1950. Selden moved to Cass County in 1945. He worked for Bekins Van and Storage, retiring in 1983. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Selden is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home; one son, Selden G. Hembree and his wife, Debbie, Garden City, MO; one daughter, Dora May Becker and her husband, Bob, Harrisonville, MO; two brothers, Doral Hembree and his wife, Mary, Raytown, MO and Wendell Hembree and his wife, Dee, Houston, TX; four sisters, Dorothy Brown, Kansas City, MO, Atha June Hembree, Raytown, MO, Flo Hembree, Kansas City, MO and Carol Pitts and her husband, Jerry, Raytown, MO; five grandchildren, Scott Hembree and his wife, Christal, Chad Hembree, Karissa Hembree, Kyla Fields and her husband, David and Dustin Becker and three great-grandchildren, Sabryna Fields, Lindsey Fields and Taylor Hembree.
