Ruth Alma Britton, 92, of Peculiar, Missouri left this earth on Thursday, January 30 , 2020 at her home. A funeral service was held on Thursday, February 6 , 2020  at First Church of Peculiar in Peculiar, MO. Interment in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, MO. . Memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice or Salvation Army.

Ruth Alma Ilse, the oldest of 3 girls and one boy was born on a large farm on December 2 , 1927 in Pipestone, Minnesota. After high school, she moved to New York City, then to Seattle, Washington to work for Northwest Airlines. There she met Leslie Franklin "Frank" Britton, a Navy Veteran, who also worked for Northwest. They married on January 30 , 1948. The couple returned to Frank's family farm in Peculiar, Missouri, and operated a farm and cow-calf operation. The marriage lasted 70 years until Frank died in 2018. Ruth was mother to two daughters: Alma and Joan; grandmother to four granddaughters: Lesley, Ruthie, Kacey, and Karly; great-grandmother to two great-granddaughters: Kennedy and Korinne and three great-grandsons: Jacob, Justen and Isaac; and sister to Dennis (Carole) Ilse and Elva Hanson.

She worked in the office of Peculiar Elementary School for many years. She enjoyed her large family, gardening, sewing, and especially volunteering to spread the Christian gospel. Ruth served as lay minister in area nursing homes and traveled to Mexico, China, Philippines, and South Africa on extended Christian missions. She was awarded the Peculiar Lion's Club's Citizen of the Year award in 1993. She was awarded Volunteer of the Year by Raymore Health Care in 1995, 1996, and 1998. She was also instrumental in the organization of the Peculiar Thrift Store many years ago. Ruth enjoyed water aerobics at the YMCA and Belton Community Center. She never met a stranger. She was always up for a new adventure, whether it was authoring funny stories, riding giant water slides, flying a hot air balloon or jumping out of a perfectly good airplane with a parachute, which she did only four months before leaving this earthly place. Now she's on an everlasting adventure in Heaven with Frank and her Jesus.
