Russell was born June 29, 1925 in King City, MO, and was raised by his grandparents. He later moved near Berlin, MO and graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas city, MO. On September 13, 1955 he married Charlotte (Boner) Martin.
Russell worked many businesses in his lifetime. He operated a auto parts store at the Lake of the Ozarks for 8 years, and owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Harrisonville for 10 years. He also repaired radios and T.V.'s. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years. He was a member of Temperance Masonic Lodge #438 , Smithville, MO, Ararat Shrine in Kansas City and was a former member of the Cass County Shrine Club, Wildcats Motorcycle Group. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO.
Russell was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Raymond Compton and mother, Beulah (Compton) Schroeder and his step-father, Clarence Schroeder, one daughter, Cassandra Compton; one son, Gary "Buck" Compton; five brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of the home; one daughter, Barbara Worthley and her husband, Jim, of Harrisonville, MO; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
