Obituary

Ruby Lucille Knight, 81, Peculiar, Missouri, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m Saturday at the First Church in Peculiar with burial in Wills Cemetery, Peculiar. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.

Ruby was born March 10, 1932, in Oak, Dekalb County, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Franklin and Nellie Lucille (Justice) McConnaughey. She was raised in Clinton, Missouri and was a member of the class of 1949, Clinton High School. On December 29, 1948, she was married to Jack Everett Knight in Macon, Missouri. They were married for 59 years, he preceding her in death on May 17, 2008. They and Jack's parents and brothers-in-law moved from Clinton to Peculiar in February, 1949.

Ruby was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years. She was a driving force in the creation of the non-denominational 1st Church of Peculiar. She was a member of the Get Together Club and a 50-year member of the Elizabeth Chapter #142, Order of Eastern Star, Belton, Missouri.

Ruby was an Avon saleslady for many years in the Peculiar area. She worked 32 years for Cotter & Company in Kansas City, and retired in 2004. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to a vast number of people in the community. She had a sincere interest in helping other people and maintained a positive attitude and spirit. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her children, Dale Knight and partner, Julie Hughes, Winston-Salem, NC and grandchildren, Xhan-Xaesar, Xong-Ae-Uy, Will Jack, and Davy Divine (Brown)-great- grandchildren, Ma Lia Knight and Tab Sabre Brown; Don Knight and wife, Gloria, recently of Schaumburg Illinois and grandchildren, Angela Domville (Tom), Lees Summit, Christina Volpe (Brian) Pingree, Grove Illinois, Christian (Allison), Oak Park, Illinois, Angie Maloney (Tom), San Diego, California, Meghan Benscoter (Jeff), Lees Summit, and Jason Scheib Huntley, Illinois-great-grandchildren, Zachary and Riley Domville, Caitlyn, Juliana, Britany and Anthony Volpe, Keegan, Rivers and Jude Knight, Ashley, Mike and Lily Maloney, Gavin and Isabella Benscoter; siblings, Charles McConnaughey (Kazue), San Diego-children, Kathy Medina, Tina McConnaughey, Douglas McConnaughey and Bill McConnaughey (Karen), Lake Chapala, Ijiciz, Mexico-children, Mike, Patrick, Diana, Joshua, and Judy Berry, Montserrat, Missouri-children, Scott Thompson, Tammy Ross and Casey Berry.
