Obituary

Roy Glenn Estes, 85, of Adrian, MO, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at his home. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO. Interment in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to VFW Post 1935, Lt. Garrison VFW Memorial or Adrian First Baptist Church.

Roy was born August 1, 1939, to Temple Estes & Emily (Griffith) Estes in their home in rural Bates County, MO. He grew up in the rural Adrian area and attended elementary school at Silverdale and Merwin; Miami High School as a freshman and sophomore, then Adrian High School where he graduated in 1957. He was active in FFA, basketball, and football. After school, Roy married the love of his life, Sharon Marie Greer, on August 20, 1961. They moved away for 4 years while Roy was in the United States Air Force, but they returned to Adrian to raise their family.

Roy worked for Bendix/Allied-Signal for 30 years and retired in 1989. He spent many years raising his Limousin cattle & alfalfa hay on their farm. In "retirement", he worked driving school buses for Sharon until they both retired and began spending winters in Texas. He loved playing fast-pitch softball, spending time on the golf course, and traveling across the country in their RV. He was a member of the Adrian VFW and attended the First Baptist Church of Adrian. He also cherished the time he could spend with family, especially spoiling his grandchildren and watching them grow up to become wonderful adults.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Hicks and Maxine Rullo; niece, Angie Crippen; and nephew, David Craig. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Estes, of Adrian, MO; daughter, Vickie Estes, of Peculiar, MO; son, Kyle (Julie) Estes, of New Braunfels, TX; grandson, Dakotah (Cayla) Estes; granddaughter, Jocilyn Estes; sister, Ruby Lockard; brother-in-law, Wayne Greer; and various nieces and nephews.
