Robert Kinsey Wood, 27, of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Adrian, Missouri, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 in Columbia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian with a Tribe of Mic-O-Say service at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Adrian Boy Scout Troop 238, c/o Atkinson Funeral Home, P.O. Robert was born February 11, 1985 in Independence, Missouri, the son of James and Valerie (Brown) Wood. He moved to Adrian in the second grade. He was in many spelling bees, math competitions, quiz bowls, Blackhawk singers and band activities. He also played pee-wee football. In high school, Robert was on Student Council, in FCCLA, Spanish Club, Hi-Step Show Choir, Quiz Bowl and math contests. He was on the wrestling and track teams and played the saxophone in the band. He thoroughly enjoyed TSA where he memorized parliamentary procedure. He played King Maximillion in the play "Cinderella". He enjoyed all of his teachers and loved learning so much that he took extra classes in his senior year. He was in National Honor Society and earned the Scholastic Athlete award for all four years. All this lead to him being class valedictorian in 2003.
Robert attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Psychology and Honor College Certificate in General Honors. He was an assistant teacher at the University and took a month long class in Italy, seeing two of the Pope's masses and many historical places and museums. While at college, he enjoyed playing and refereeing Humans vs. Zombies. Robert enjoyed working at Integral Resources. He volunteered weekly at the VA while studying for the MCAT's. He intended to become a doctor so he could help find a cure for Type I diabetes.
Robert loved being a Scout. He joined in 1992 and was looking forward to seeing his brother rise in the ranks just as he did. He worked for five summers down at H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp, running the kitchen in Camp Lone Star. He was an Eagle Scout and proud of being a Mic-O-Say dancer. He worked hard learning all of the dances. He was Insolent Red Owl Shaman in the Tribe.
Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert L. Wood. He is survived by his parents, Doug and Valerie Wood, Adrian, MO; three sisters, Catherine, Elizabeth and Mary Grace and one brother, James, all of Adrian; maternal grandparents, Kinsey and Catherine Brown, Walnut, CA; paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Randolph, Adrian; aunt, Maria Hommel (Brian), Temecula, CA; uncle, Kinsey Brown (Denise), Glendora, CA; cousins, Candace and Johnathan Tingley, Korey and Trish Brown; best friends, Natalie Albright and Allek Kelm and many other very good friends and relatives in Adrian, Columbia and elsewhere.
