On the evening of March 7, 2011 Robert (Bob) Lee Hooker Sr. passed away at Indian Meadows Nursing Center in Overland Park, Ks at the age of 80. Funeral services were held Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO, officiated by Rev. Tim Redding, First Baptist Church, Peculiar, MO. Honorary casketbearers were Charles Hooker, John Ford, John Lopez, David Dunn, Wayne Williams and Matthew Ford. Casketbearers were Robert Ford-Hooker, Kenneth Dunn, Jimmy Dickens, Dalton McGhee and Derek Dunn. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
Bob was born on March 23, 1930 to William & Ella (Fri) Hooker in Adrian, Mo, one of two sons. His younger brother is Charles Hooker. Bob was a very active lifetime member of the VFW until this last year. He was last a member of VFW POST 1935 of Adrian. He was a bigger contributor to the POW/MIA part of the VFW. Bob was a Korean War Veteran that was overseas in a M.A. S. H. unit and was active in the Army National Guard.
Bob was known by many as the produce man, who, with his brother, would be selling fruits and vegetables to the community every summer. He was known by many in the community and did not know a stranger. Throughout his life Bob had worked as a farmer, truck driver, volunteer fireman, volunteer police officer and many other different jobs. He was a very proud grandpa and had practice at this role for more than twenty-five years. He enjoyed watching the kids playing ball in the summer and taking time out for a little fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vivian R. Hooker. He is survived by his brother, Charles Hooker and his wife, Nona of Adrian; daughters, Robin Charlene (Hooker) Dickens and husband, Jimmy of Butler, Mo., Misty Michelle Ford-Hooker of Butler, Mo. and Patricia (Ford) Lopez and husband, John of Kyle, Texas; sons, Robert Lee Ford-Hooker (Jr.) of Kansas, John E. Ford of Adrian, Edward L. Ford and his wife, Carla, Terra Haute, IN and Stanley Hooker. Bob was the proud grandfather of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At last count there was 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Bob will be sadly missed by many. He was the kind of man who always knew how to make you smile and laugh.
