Robert William Hocker, 81, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, March 7, 2008 in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, March 10, 2008 at Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville, with burial at Freeman Cemetery in Freeman, MO. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 PM Sunday evening at the chapel. Contributions may be made to Freeman Baptist Church.
Bob was born March 21, 1926 in Lisle, MO, the son of William David and Daisy Mae (Osburn) Hocker. He married Betty Jean Weller on December 23, 1950 in Drexel, MO.
Bob graduated from Archie High School. He was an Army sergeant, serving in WWII. He was a lifelong Cass County resident where he farmed for many years and drove a school bus for the Cass Midway R-1 School for 20 years. He also served on the Cass Midway School Board for nine years. Bob was a member and deacon of Freeman Baptist Church, a member of the National Farmers Organization, Freeman Lions Club and Freeman Community Club.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Mary Ella Hocker, Arlene Johnson, Merle Coble and Lois Grummer. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, William R. Hocker and wife, Clara, Tawanda, KS, and Chester W. Hocker and wife, Susan, Overland Park, KS; one daughter, Wilma J. Bright and husband, Larry, Jackson, MO; one brother, David Hocker and wife, Maureen, Belton, MO; a sister, Carol Simmons and husband, Glen, Harrisonville; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
