Robert D. "Bob" Robey, 87, Adrian, Missouri, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Medicalodge of Butler, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, with visitation from 1:00-2:00. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Park Board.
Bob was born September 12, 1928. He was the first of eight children born to David Francis and Elta Mae Coates Robey. He started school at Altona Rural School and completed his formal education at Albion High School, Albion, Nebraska in 1945. Upon graduation, Bob immediately traveled to Washington, D.C. to work as a fingerprint classifier for the F.B.I. In January of 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served until July, 1956. After his discharge, Bob worked for the United States Department of Agriculture, before working as a carpenter. He spent many years building houses, doing concrete finishing and doing odd jobs for people in the community.
Bob enjoyed gardening and bee keeping, often sharing the results with friends and family. He served as a 4-H woodworking project leader and served on the original City of Adrian Park Board. Bob was very independent in his extended road trips, often without telling his family or friends where he was going. He was an avid reader of newspapers and magazines and volunteered at the Adrian Journal for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two nieces, one nephew, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. Survivors include: sisters, Lila Gunn, Margaret (Hervil) Satterfield, Betty (Larry) Flatt, Dolly Robey, all of Adrian, and Pat Cumpton of Lone Jack, Missouri; brothers, Max (Mary Ann) Robey and RaGene Robey, also of Adrian; other relatives and friends in the area.
