Robert Cummins 83, Harrisonville, Missouri died Friday, July 4, 2014 at his home in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial, with Military Honors in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. A Masonic Service, under the direction of Cass Masonic Lodge #147 ,will be held 8:00 pm. Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Atkinson Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or The Shriners Hospital.

Bob was born the snowy morning of December 21, 1930 in Garden City, MO, a son of Walter and Ala Julia (Fitzwater) Cummins. Bob moved from Garden City with the family to Harrisonville when he was in the fifth grade and had lived in Harrisonville ever since. He was a 1949 graduate of Harrisonville High School and was looking forward to the attending the class's 65th reunion in September.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy on September 6, 1950 and served five years during the Korean Conflict before his discharge in 1955.
He was united in marriage to Nina Katrine Sweitzer on September 24, 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Bob joined the First Baptist Church as a teenager, and continued his relationship with the church through the years, serving as Deacon, Sunday School Director and Greeter.

Bob had many jobs over the years, starting while he was still in school. He worked for South Side Drug, P.K. Glenn Drugstore, Zollicker Hatchery, managed the Skelly Station at South Independence and Mechanic, managed the local brickplant, and started C. & H. Painting with Ralph Hershberger. He also ran the famous Red Onion Restaurant, drove the tank truck for Hotchkiss Oil, built, owned and operated BoKa Storage, and finally, was a driver for OATS Transportation. All of these businesses were in Harrisonville.
Bob was also very active in community organizations. He was a member and Past President of the Harrisonville Optimist Club, and held state office as a Lieutenant Governor in the Optimist Club.
Bob was an active member of Cass Masonic Lodge # 147AF & AM in Harrisonville, a member of the York Bodies and was an active member of Ararat Shrine in Kansas City. He was a long time member of the Cass County Shrine Club, always cooking, selling onions, collecting money for circus tickets at Walmart and attending and helping with the Shrine Circus in Kansas City. He was serving as President of the Cass County Shrine Club at the time of his death.

Bob came from a large family and was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Bernice, Kathleen, and Nadine; and five brothers, Glenn, Cecil, Everett, Coburn, and Loren Dale.
Robert is survived by his wife, Katrine, of the home; a son Monte Joseph and wife, Mary Beth, Harrisonville; a daughter, Julia Jeanie Cummins, Greensboro, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Mandi Ann Read and husband, Michael; three great-grandsons, Dylan, Kale, and Rylee; an adopted daughter, Maria Inez Moraga, Santiago, Chile; many nieces, nephews and untold friends.
