Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, with visitation from 12:00-1:00. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. The family asked in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Bob was born October 28, 1930 in Lewistown, MT to Jesse Finis and Ada May (Belcher) Adams. Bob's parents homesteaded in Lewistown, MT prior to moving to Fairplay, MO when Bob was 6 years old. Bob grew up in Fairplay, graduating high school from Bear Creek School in Bear Creek, MO. He married the love of his life, Jean Carroll Griffin, on May 11, 1950. To this union were born two sons, Robert Wayne, Richard Lee, and one daughter, Janet Carroll. Bob accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his front yard while in his fifties, and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Adrian by Pastor Rod Albert.
Bob was a carpenter by trade and a farmer by heart, working around the Kansas City area as a carpenter during the day, then driving back home to Adrian to get on the tractor to farm in the evenings and on weekends until retirement from his trade at the age of 62, at which time he farmed full time. Family frequently wondered how he did so much, but he insisted that farming was 'fun'. Bob always worked two or more jobs to provide for his family, and whatever was broke, he took it apart and figured out how to fix it. He loved working in his vegetable garden, and found peace working in his rose garden which also provided such enjoyment to the love of his life, Jean, just sitting and looking at the beauty of the roses.
Besides being with his family and friends, Bob found contentment in just being outside "piddling" as he called it, farming with his tractor, checking on the crops, or just sitting on the Gator watching his cattle. Bob loved to visit with friends and help them in any way he could, and he couldn't have asked for better neighbors who have over the years become family to all of us.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 59 years, Jean Carroll Adams, three sisters, Georgia, Wyvle, Margaret, and one brother, Earl. Survivors include his sister Lois Workman, three children, Wayne Adams, Rick Adams (Deneen), and Janet Snell (Bret); six grandchildren, Heather Jacobs, Tiffany Hylton, Shannon, Catrina, and Jeffrey Adams, and Shania Snell; eight great grandchildren (plus one on the way), two wonderful sisters-in-law, one wonderful brother-in-law, and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to say a special 'thank you' to those at Serenity Hospice- your care of and compassion for our father and the rest of us during this difficult time is much appreciated.
