Bob attended the one-room school of Mount Zion before moving onto Union Hall School through the eighth grade and later transferring to Harrisonville High School for his upper level education.
Following his time spent in the education system, Bob went to work as a driver for the Finley-Shotwell (later known as Finley-Crown) Bus Service. Bob married Nina Moorehead on November 19, 1979. Their marriage together saw the retirement of Bob's work from the cemetery business in 1995. Nina preceded Bob in death on September 4, 2000.

Bob liked to keep busy "piddling" and "tinkering" with wood projects, making many a toy car or truck, piano, or airplane for both children and adults. He enjoyed his garden of tomatoes and cucumbers, sharing his harvest with all. Bob attended several churches in Cass County, settling down in his last years of life to attend the First Christian Church of Harrisonville.
