Robert Oliver Burns, 73, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center in Blue Springs, Missouri. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Robert was born September 26, 1940 in Higginsville, Missouri, the son of Joseph O. and Margaret Lucille (Wentworth) Burns. He married Marie Wardlow on November 28, 1959 in Higginsville. He was a retired U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1966-1974. During his service, he received numerous medals and ribbons, including a Purple Heart, the Presidential Unit Citation, a Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and a Navy Commendation Medal.
Robert was a certified water plant operator for the City of Harrisonville for 28 years until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of the Harrisonville VFW Post 4409 and the Harrisonville Elks Lodge #2791.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of the home; and three sisters, Joann, Wanda and Carolyn.
