Obituary

Richard "Dick" Allen Morris, 80, of Raymore, Missouri passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.  A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m at First Church of Peculiar in Peculiar. Inurnment will follow in Peculiar Cemetery. Memorial Services will also be held on Saturday, August 15th at 11:00 am at Kremer Funeral Home in Omaha, Nebraska, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dick was born on May 19, 1939, in Valley, Nebraska, son of George Alexander and Elva Marie (Adams) Morris.  Dick grew up in the Omaha, Nebraska area, graduating from high school in Irvington, Nebraska.  He went on to live in Sioux City, Iowa; Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Memphis, Tennessee; Great Lakes, Illinois; Belton and Raymore, Missouri.

Dick married Mary L. Morrow on June 14, 1958, who preceded him in death in 1995, to this union, they had four children: Christine, Michelle, Denise, and Craig.  Dick married Nancy L. Stine on July 13, 1996, in Peculiar, MO, adding two additional daughters, Patricia and Sharon, to the family.

Dick spent his career serving in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.  He retired after 32 years of service to his country.  After his military service, he was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 10 years of service.  Dick was a member of First Church of Peculiar, serving as Treasurer and Registered Agent; Grand River Masonic Lodge #276, Freeman, Missouri; Navy Fleet Reserve Association; and Disabled American Veterans.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary; brothers: Harvey Morris and Byrel Morris; sisters: Virginia Toy, Aline Painter, Eva Roberts, Sylvia Roberts, Ila Schwieter, Dorothy Perrigo, and Daisy Randall; great-granddaughter, Allyssa Marie Tighe; and son-in-law, Jim Trawicke.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters: Christine Trawicke, Michelle (Mike) Messer, and Denise (Phillip) Baldwin; son, Craig (Trisha) Morris; daughters: Patricia (Greg) Hunt and Sharon (Jeff) Halsey; 11 grandchildren: Michaela (Chad) Tighe, Nicholas (Nancy) Stary, Jessica (Jeff) Smith, Gabrielle Messer, Melissa (John) Shanks, Amanda (Jacob) Duhon, Julia Morris, Emily Morris, Alicia (Sean) Morrison, Claire (David) Brooks, and Jeremy Halsey; 7 great-grandchildren: Jackson and River Tighe, Wesley and Jillian Smith, Landon Morrison, Ellis Shanks, and Lincoln Duhon.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nora Dodge; brother-in-law, Edward (Mary) Savage; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dick was a passionate supporter of the Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation Caring About Nutrition (CAN) program which provides food for children who might otherwise go without.  Donations can be made to Raymore-Peculiar Public School Foundation (RPPSF) in memory of Richard Morris and mailed to: PO Box 789; Peculiar, MO 64078.
