Short was born February 14, 1927 on the family farm, south of Freeman, MO, the son of John and Maude (Brooks) Adams. He grew up in Cass County and attended school in Archie. He was a U. S. Army veteran, Pvt. First Classman, cook, and fire fighter. He was honorably discharged after serving one year with the medal of Victory. He worked as a driver for Jackson Distillery for many years.

Upon retiring, he enjoyed helping his friend, Carl, mow and bale hay. He really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and running the barrel races. Let's not forget the fishing he did, and he would never give up his secret fishing holes when asked. He loved playing a good hand of poker and bingo with his friends. He also loved taking rides through the country side. He will be sorely missed by many of his family and extended family and friends.
