Phyllis M. McGhee, 90, of Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, November 27, 2020 at her home in Harrisonville. A memorial service was held on Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.
Phyllis was born July 12, 1930 in Pembine, Wisconsin, a daughter of John Maurice and Lillian (Mickelson) Leach. Phyllis grew up in the Kansas City area and was a 1948 graduate of Raytown High School. She was united in marriage to Herbert McGhee on July 21, 1951, and they lived in Raytown, MO before moving to Harrisonville in 1963.
Phyllis worked at Western Electric/AT&T in Lee's Summit, MO as an inspector-tester for 22 years before her retirement in 1985. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville and a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Cass Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed taking cruises and traveling, having visited Peru, Germany, New Zealand,Italy, Greece, Australia and Israel. Phyllis was instrumental in incorporating the Walnut Grove Rural School #66 into the Harrisonville School District, allowing children living in that area to attend Harrisonville schools.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Steve McGhee (Kathy), of Riverside, CA, Mark McGhee, of Mack's Creek, MO, and Ron McGhee (Phyllis), of Harrisonville; one daughter, Melody McGhee (Don), of Drexel, MO; one brother, Gerald Leach, of Merritt Island, FL; one sister, Margaret Marshall, of Chillicothe, MO; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
