Perry L. Sanders, 91, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 5, 2024. Funeral services were held Friday, August 9, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar, MO, with burial in Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Freeman Baptist Church, Freeman, MO.
Perry was born June 16, 1933 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Perry Marshall and Mildred Lillian (Morris) Sanders. Perry was a lifelong area resident and a 1951 graduate of Peculiar High School. He attended Bob Jones University, and was a graduate of John Brown University. While attending John Brown, Perry met the girl he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Her name was Louise Ash from Gateway, Arkansas. They were united in marriage on May 19, 1956.
Perry was involved in a wide variety of jobs and activities, but church and sharing Jesus were high on his list. He was a licensed Master Plumber and owner of Perry Sanders Plumbing and Heating from 1976 to 1984. He was a member of Plumbers Local Union #8 and served on the Local #8 Apprentice Board for a number of years. Perry was a Missouri Licensed Teacher for over 25 years, and taught High School English in many area schools, including Miami, MO, High School. He was a member of the Freeman Baptist Church in Freeman, MO, and a former member and Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar. He was a charter member of the Open Door Bible Church in Belton, MO. He also owned and operated Sanders Development managing apartments and strip mall shops. As a result of all his work and involvement in Peculiar, Perry was honored as the Grand Marshall at the 2024 Peculiar Parade.
Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Mildred; three sisters: Bernice Sterling, Mary Jane Penrose, and Juanita Hayden; and a brother, Larry Sanders. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise; a daughter, Karen Blankenship, and husband, Dan, Peculiar, MO; two sons: Perry John Sanders, Peculiar, MO; and Mark Sanders and wife, Diane, Towner, CO; 10 grandchildren: Jill Blankenship, Josh (Laura) Blankenship, Jamie (Tim) Goldsmith, Isaac Sanders, Katie (Kenny) Peeler, Grace Sanders, Matthew (Mady) Sanders, Isaiah Sanders, Levi Sanders, and Hope (Adam) Ammerman; and 8 great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Alene, Noah, Jackson, Hayes, Rosalee, Josie, and Tate.
The family wishes to give special Thanks to KC Hospice for the amazing care they took during his last few weeks.
