Obituary

Perry Joseph Allen, 85, Raymore, MO, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the Mass at the church. Inurnment at the IOOF Cemetery, Sullivan, MO, will be at a later date.

Perry was born January 28, 1932, in Linn, Missouri, son of Paul Ivan and Caroline Ellen (Nilges) Allen. He was one of 10 children and was raised in the Jefferson City, MO area. Perry was a graduate of the University Of Missouri, Columbia and received his Masters Degree in Banking from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX. He was a bank examiner for the FDIC for 28 years before his retirement in December 1987.

Perry was united in marriage to Helen M. Betz, February 15, 1958, in Westphalia, MO. Perry's job with the FDIC kept them moving over the years and they lived in Macon, MO, Humboldt, KS and Belton, MO. After his retirement, Perry moved to Elsmore, KS to start his second career. He became a farmer, raised cattle and did custom haying and seeding. They moved to Harrisonville in 2012 and to Raymore in 2016.

Perry was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the VFW. He was a member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville and was an active member of the Knights Of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight in Macon and Humboldt.


Perry was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie (Betz) Allen, Raymore; two sons, Perry Joseph "Joe" Allen Jr. and wife Karen, Harrisonville and John David Allen, Kansas City, MO; three daughters, Linda Lee Clements and husband Scott, Humboldt, KS, Pamela Jeanne Wood and husband James, Kansas City, MO and Sandra Dee Allen, Belton, MO; 6 grandchildren, Adrianne, Abra, Dalton, Genevieve, Madison and Caitlin; 3 great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Jacie and Joelle; 3 sisters, Patricia Eynard, St. Peters, MO, Paula Carter and husband Don, New Bloomfield, MO and Sally D. Gabelsburger, Columbia, MO.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left with or mailed to Atkinson Funeral Home, 600 W. Wall Street, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
