Patricia Evelyn (Patterson) Moore "Patty", 86, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021 at St. Luke's East Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, September 10, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Interment in Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Missouri. Patty was born on October 3, 1934, at Hurdland, Missouri, to Forest and Myrna (Magruder) Patterson. Patty had an older brother, Donn, and two younger sisters, Cherie and Cathy. Growing up, Patty moved with her family many times following her dad's jobs and she attended many different schools. She played girls' basketball and graduated from Cleveland, Missouri as valedictorian of her class. Not long after graduation, her dad got her a secretarial job at Ford Motor Co., where he also worked. Patty lived with her parents near Drexel, Missouri, and shared rides with a neighbor that worked the same shift. Later on, she joined three others and rode with Robert "Bob" Moore, who became her future husband.
Patty and Bob were married on August 1, 1953 in Lisle, Missouri and had three children: Meryl Lynn, Bob, Jr., and Jim. Patty stayed home, raising kids and gardening. Patty loved all kinds of animals and had many pets including a squirrel, a crow name Gomer, and she always had a dog of some kind, usually a stray. One of her favorite pets was her horse, Ginger. Patty and Bob were saved at the Nazarene Church in Drexel and later joined the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church south of Harrisonville when they moved. Patty was the choir director for over twenty years. She was so proud that her children accompanied her on the organ and piano. All of the Moore family loved music (especially gospel) and they sang in several quartets. Patty sang with the Sweet Adelines and was proud to be a bass. She was also famous for playing her alto saxophone.
Patty began to work at the Harrisonville High School when the kids were older. She started out taking lunch money and later became the principal's secretary. She then worked for Western Electric in Lee's Summit, Richards-Gebaur in Grandview, and the General Services Administration from which she retired. After Bob retired, they bought a motor home and traveled throughout the United States. They were "winter snowbirds" in Moore Haven, Florida, and spent many summers fishing at Mantrap Lake in Park Rapids, Minnesota.
Patty attended many activities with her children and grandchildren and rarely missed a performance. She was an avid sports fan. She loved to watch the Chiefs and the NBA games. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and was known to occasionally give the referees some advice on how to call a play.
Patty was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves behind her husband of sixty-eight years, Bob; her children: Meryl (Ted) Lange, Bob Jr., and Jim (Christine) Moore; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; her sister, Cherie (Mike) Chapman; and many friends. She was a wonderful example of a Christian woman with her sweet welcoming smile and her warm hospitality.
