Patricia "Patty" Sue (Christy) McLaughlin, 78, Harrisonville, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, with her family at her side. In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 2 at the New Home Cemetery in Warsaw, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Abiding Love Baptist Church Building Fund.

Patty was born March 13, 1936, the daughter of the late Harvey and Sibyl (Blackwell) Christy. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing and playing the piano, and knitting. She was a current and active member of Abiding Love Baptist Church in Harrisonville where she was a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and choir member. She was born and raised in Warsaw, Missouri and was a 1954 graduate and Valedictorian of Warsaw High School. She also attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri.

Patty previously lived in Sedalia, Missouri where she was an active member of First Baptist Church, having taught Sunday school and sung in the choir. While living in Sedalia, she was honored with the DIANA Award of Rho Tau in 1971 and Outstanding Young Woman of Sedalia in the Year in 1971 as well as Outstanding Young Woman of Missouri in the Year 1971. She was a Birthright volunteer for many years and sang in a barbershop quartet there. Patty was a member of the Missouri Baptist Festival Choir and was chosen to perform at the Music Festival in Coventry, England in 1992. She was multi-talented, having worked as a retail clothing manager for many years. She also owned and managed her own clothing store, The Body Shoppe, at Sedalia and Osage Beach, Missouri for almost 15 years.

She is survived by three daughters, Dawn (Robert) Weaver of St. Joseph, Missouri, Jill (Mark) Grunewald of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and April McLaughlin of Harrisonville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jeffrey McLaughlin, Grace McLaughlin and Harriet Grunewald; a sister, Carol (Christy) Laird of Godfrey, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Patty was preceded in death by her son, Craig and two sisters, Eloise Atkins and Joyce Cooke. She was married to Bill McLaughlin (deceased) for 33 years.
