IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela
Wiskur
May 25, 1955 – November 20, 2023
Pamela Joy Wiskur, 68, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, November 20, 2023. Funeral services were held a Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO, followed by burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Crescent Hill Cemetery.
Pam was born on May 25, 1955 in Kansas City, MO to Charles Dean and Mary Ellen (Moore) Barnes. She was a 1973 graduate of Belton High School and attended college at Central Missouri State University.
Pam was joined in marriage to Harry Basnight and, out of this union, they shared two sons, Brad and Jeremy. The family lived the military life for many years and this afforded Pam opportunities to travel, one of her favorite hobbies. The family spent 10 years in Japan on Yokohama Naval Base. During her time there, she worked for MWR (Morale Welfare Recreation) as a Preschool/Childcare director, and later as the secretary to the MWR Director. She was involved in the planning of many fun filled family events on the base, including the start of the annual Fall Harvest Fest. In her spare time, she spent many evenings at the Hitachi Corporation teaching English to the employees. She also loved meeting new people and making new friends, which is where she found her life-long bestie, Donna, of 43 years. They were a tremendous support to each other when their husbands were at sea. Together they traveled, shopped, raised their kids and created a lot of mischief.
In 1989, she moved back to the states and settled in Harrisonville, MO. She soon started working at the emergency room admitting desk for Cass Regional Medical Center, and later took a job with the USDA as a Program Technician. She enjoyed her 26 years at USDA helping local farmers and, of course, making many dear friends. She retired in 2016 to focus on her health and her family. She also became involved with Quail Unlimited and in the planning and organizing of the annual banquet, which she always looked forward to.
During her time at USDA, she met her husband, Bill, of 17 years. Together, they blended their families as one. She quickly joined into the Wiskur family traditions of big dinners, family reunions and the annual making of kraut. Pam enjoyed spending time with Bill on the Wiskur family farm, riding beside him on equipment or running errands to the fields. They liked to go on cruises together, visit close friends in Florida, and also spent time visiting the Branson, MO area. Side by side, they fought Pam's diagnosis for 8 years, and Pam was thankful for Bill's caring heart when the battle was difficult.
Pam's greatest love was children and in return the children loved her. She was always their biggest ally and full of fun. Her nieces and nephews were highlights in her life, but her grandchildren hung the moon. Becoming a "Mamaw" was her proudest moment in her eyes. She always had a house full of grandkids and their friends, whom she considered hers as well. Some feared "The Spanking Spoon" as much as the grandkids, though she very rarely used it on any of them. She made sure Santa was very good to them each year, she shared her love of travel with them, she attended school events, she filled their bellies with her good home cooking and supported each of them in every way possible. To say she spoiled them and showered them with love is an understatement.
Pam is survived by her husband, Bill Wiskur, of the home; sons, Brad Basnight and Jeremy Basnight, both of Harrisonville, MO, and Wesley (Michelle) Wiskur, Archie, MO; daughter, Sarah (Greg James) Cook, Adrian, MO; grandsons, Dorsey Basnight, Kansas City, MO, Branden Jackson, Macon, MO, Keaton Cook, Adrian, MO, Waylon and Weston Wiskur, Archie, MO; granddaughters, Raigenn Basnight, Holden, MO, and Ava Basnight, Lee's Summit, MO; her mother, Mary Ellen Barnes, Harrisonville, MO; her brother, Neal (JoAnne) Barnes, Drexel, MO; her sister, Kimberly (Curt) Gilliam, Nixa, MO; close friend Donna (James) Templer, Green Cove Springs, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Pam was preceded in death by her father, Charles D Barnes, her father-in-law, Dale Wiskur and her mother-in-law, Nannie Wiskur.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Belton Oncology for many years of motivation and caring support to Pam. She thought the world of everyone in the office.
