Ophelia Cole, 87, Lee's Summit, Missouri, formerly of Latour, Missouri, died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at her son's home in Lee's Summit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Ophelia was born September 22, 1928 in Palestine, Arkansas, the daughter of Ed and Della (Weaver) Motley. Ophelia received her general education in the Palestine, Arkansas school district. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the early 1940's. She married Leroy Nash and they were blessed with six sons. Ophelia married Joe Cole on April 26, 1963 in Palestine, Arkansas. They moved to Latour, Missouri in 1972 and became farmers. She loved to fish, garden and grow vegetables. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making quilts, and other arts and crafts.
They attended Berea Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the following pastors: Elder Chester Gray, Elder William Allen, Elder Robert Nesbitt and Elder Sam Latimore, until the death of her husband, Joe on November 27, 2013. They were both active workers in the church. Mother Cole then moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri with her youngest son.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, four sisters, Girtha Tomlin, Dorothy Henry, Reather Mae Roper, and Maxcine Gray; two sons, William Nash and Leon Nash, Sr., and one step-daughter, Bernitta Joyner. She is survived by sons, Eddie Nash, Kansas City, Kansas, David Nash, Indiana, Alonzo Nash, St. Joseph, Missouri, Dennis Nash (Greta), Lee's Summit, Missouri; step-sons, Chester Nash (Jackie), Louisiana, Cliff Nash, London, Robert Cole, Kansas City, Missouri. Edward Scott, Kansas City, Missouri; step-daughters, Carol Duarte (Hober), Mountain View, California, JoAnn Murray (Curtis), Somerset, New Jersey, Jerri Garrison, Kansas City, Missouri, Sherry Scott, Kansas City, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, acquaintances and Saints.
