Opal Lee Summers, 86, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Opal was born December 2, 1926 in Hatfield, Arkansas, the daughter of Omer and Lillie Mae (Williams) McCulley. She married Orvan Alford "Al" Summers on December 9, 1944 in Mena, Arkansas.
Opal was an amazing cook and gardener. She would cook dinners for her neighbors and for anyone who needed dinners. She made relish, canned jellies, jams, pickles, made BBQ sauce; she loved to cook and garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gerald McCulley and Charles McCulley, one sister, Estellene Lamb and her husband, Al, on February 6, 2000. She is survived by two sons, O. Lee Summers and wife, Lois, Mena, Arkansas and Duane Summers and wife, Tracy, Harrisonville, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Nikki Fee, Shawna Summers, Jason Summers, Joshua Summers and wife, Jamie; and 5 great-grandchildren.
