Opal M. Hawkins, 93, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, May 23, 2022, surrounded by family. Funeral services were held  Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Opal was born February 12, 1929 in Cass County, Missouri, a daughter of Ernest Edward and Etta Mae (Blake) Goddard. She was a life-long Cass County resident and attended Mt. Zion Rural School #63, Oak Grove Rural School #31, and Harrisonville High School. Opal was united in marriage to Ralph Gerald Hawkins Jr. on September 27, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas. Together they owned and operated the General Store in East Lynne before purchasing the Cortez Motel in Harrisonville which they ran until they retired in 1975. Opal loved to garden, cook, do crafts, work in the yard, and keep up with the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph, Dec. 18, 2010; three brothers: Vernon Lee, Eldon Ernest, Norman Ray; and four sisters: Vera Louise, Beaulah Belle, Edna Lucille, and Ellen June. Opal is survived by her children: Sharon Weaver, Harrisonville; Randy Hawkins, Sr., and his wife, Mary Michele, Harrisonville; and Pam Ater, and her husband, Tim, Nevada MO; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
