Oliver Dean "Wally" Wallen, 76, Peculiar, MO, formerly of Kansas City, MO, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, MO. No services are scheduled. (Cremation). Wally was a 13-year survivor of multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer). Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Cancer Hope Lodge, 1120 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, MO 64105.
Wally was born May 7, 1934 in Schell City, MO, the son of Homer T. and Ruby Francis (Nichols) Wallen. He attended school in Schell City and Walker, MO and graduated from Nevada, Missouri High School in 1952. Wally served in the U. S. Navy from 1952-1956. He worked for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department from 1958-1987, retiring with the rank of Captain. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Central Missouri State University in 1975 and a master's degree in 1976.
Wally was involved in various forms of racing, late model stock cars, and, with his son, go-karts, winged sprint cars, midgets and motorcycles. He owned and operated Wallen Racing, a go-kart business.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Wallen, his mother, Ruby (Nichols) Wallen Middaugh, step-father, Glenn Middaugh, great-grandson, Caden James Thomas, paternal and maternal grandparents and uncle, Kenneth Nichols. He is survived by his wife, Lenora F. (Taylor) Wallen, of the home; children, Vicki Anderson and her husband, Pete, San Antonio, TX, Robin Stewart and her husband, Danny, Belton, MO, Oliver "Buddy" Wallen, II and his wife, Jackie, Harrisonville, MO; 8 grandchildren, Gavin, Tracy, Jared, Brendan, Garret, Cody, Dustin and Jesse; 4 great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Kyle, Faith and Keegan and one brother, Roger Wallen and his wife, Faye, and children, Lee's Summit, MO.
