O. Dean Spencer, 87, Belton, MO, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Research Belton Hospital, Belton, MO. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Belton Cemetery in Belton, MO. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Christian Church, Belton, MO.
Dean was born November 16, 1921 in Clinton, Illinois, the son of Carl and Minnie Mae (Florey) Spencer. He grew up in Vernon County, Missouri and was a 1942 graduate of Walker Missouri High School. He was united in marriage to Minnie Marie Radde on January 1, 1942, in Nevada, Missouri.
Dean was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Belton. In 1958, he moved to Jackson County, Missouri and in 1960, moved to Belton, Missouri. Dean was a farmer and worked for Hallmark Cards for 15 years, retiring in 1973.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary L. Spencer, and a brother, Ralph Spencer. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Minnie, of the home; one son, Jim D. Spencer and his wife, Kathy of Peculiar, MO; one daughter, Madeline Post and her husband, Chick of Belton, MO; one brother, Thorton Spencer, Nevada, MO; two sisters, Thelma Wade, Thomasville, Georgia and Wilma Kennedy, Kansas City, MO; 8 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
