Nancy Kay McDermott, 77, Spring City, Tennessee, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, MO. Services to be held at a later date in Spring City, TN, where Nancy had resided for the last twenty years.
Nancy was born December 10, 1934 in Independence, MO, the daughter of Kenneth Byron and Ardith (Roedel) Gibson. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1953 and attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg. Nancy moved to Washington, DC in 1965 to pursue her career as a court reporter. This resulted in extensive travel all over the world which she continued to do in retirement.
Nancy enjoyed playing golf, bridge, Mah Jongg and traveling with her sisters. She was active in the local theater, not as an actress but in any other way that she could. Nancy was an avid follower of the stock market and belonged to an investment club of women named Tenn Pennies. Nancy considered herself lucky to live in such a beautiful area surrounded by such caring and supportive friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom McDermott and sister, Sara Gibson. Survivors include sisters, Barbara (Cap) Hiles, Lady Lake, FL, Patricia Gibson, Hanna, WY, Janet Barker, Harrisonville, MO and Judy (Wayne) Freeark, Alamosa, CO; brothers, Dick Gibson, Weslaco, TX, Jim (Marty) Gibson, Kearney, MO and John Gibson, Fulton, MO, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
