Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth (Atchley) Emmons, 84, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Harrisonville. Donations to Bright Futures Harrisonville, a community initiative that responds to young people's needs.

Nancy was born in Birmingham, Michigan, in 1932, she and her husband of 58 years made Harrisonville their home as of 1968. Her working life began as the mother of three children before she added jobs with Cass County, mostly helping people in need find employment. For several years she ran a bedroom-and-bathroom amenities shop, called Bloomies of Harrisonville, on the town square. She foolishly told the local radio station on Wal-Mart's opening day that it was the best thing that ever happened to the town. After changing her membership in the Episcopalian church of her parents' religion to the First Christian Church of her husband's family, she taught Sunday school. She was a retired member of the Clay Potters Garden Club. She loved knitting, quilting, indoor plants, horses, dogs, rooting for the Royals and the Chiefs and buying unnecessary plastic items from mail-order catalogs.

Nancy is survived by her children, Scott, Karen and Wendy; a grandson, Leighton; a son-in-law, a sister-in-law, three nieces and a nephew.
