Nancy Elizabeth Dillon, 81, Freeman, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Vitas Hospice in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Freeman Baptist Church in Freeman with burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 6 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
Nancy was born January 22, 1932 in Olympia, Kentucky, the daughter of Sidney P. and Fanny F. (Butner) Smith. She attended college in Bolivar, Missouri for two years and received her B.S. in Education from Warrensburg Teachers College. She then received her Masters of Education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
Nancy taught rural school at Bethel #42 in Cass County, Missouri from 1952-1955. She began teaching math and English at Cass-Midway Schools in 1956 and retired as a Librarian in 1998. While working at Cass-Midway, Nancy met Fred Dillon, who was also employed by the school, and they were united in marriage on May 22, 1965 at the Freeman Baptist Church in Freeman, with Rev. Joe Brewster officiating. Nancy was an active member of the Freenan Baptist Church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Fred, of the home; one daughter, Louise Irvin and her husband, Nick, Freeman, Missouri; one brother, Jim Smith, Liberty, Missouri; four sisters, Margaret Phillips, Raytown, Missouri, Emma Carnegie and Francis Gibson, both of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Ruth Green, Walhalla, South Carolina; 2 grandchildren, Keillah Dillon and Izac Irvin.
